CHRISTMAS IN NY

I always love coming to NY at this time of year. It is so festive and  it really gets me in the spirit for Christmas. NY is the BEST place  for doing Christmas shopping; I always go crazy while I am here.

Of course, I am not just here to shop (unfortunately!); I am also here  to work. This is the beginning of the party and award ceremony season  so there is lots of work to be done with my publicist who is based in  NY. I work really closely with him producing clutches and evening bags  that are perfect for the red carpet. Then when he is dressing  celebrities such as Alicia Keys and Kate Bosworth for big events, they  get the chance to pick one of my bags. This season my bright green and  purple satin clutches are really popular, as are my eel clutches.  While I am here, I am also meeting with important US　press and  attending VIP events, so it is a busy week!

Luckily, I have had the chance to catch up with my younger sister  Jenny who lives in the USA　and works with me in our American office.  We had great fun hanging out and shopping together.

この時期にNYに来るのが大好き。街全体がお祝いの雰囲気に包まれて、クリスマス気分をいっそう盛り上げてくれるから。それに、NYはクリスマスショッピングには世界中で一番の場所。ここにいるといつもわくわくしちゃう。

　もちろん、NYにショッピングのためだけにいるんじゃないのよ（残念ながら！）。ここにいるのは仕事のためでもあるの。これから始まるパーティシーズンと賞レースの授賞式シーズンのために、NYにいる私のパブリシストとたくさんの仕事をこなさなくちゃ。気心が知れている彼とは、レッドカーペットのためのクラッチバッグやイブニングバッグをデザインするの。彼は大きなイベントのためにアリシア・キーズやケイト・ボスワースなどのセレブリティのスタイリングも手がけていて、そんな時、セレブリティ達が私のバッグをピックアップするチャンスがあるというわけ。今シーズンはイールのクラッチと同様、明るいグリーンとパープルのサテンクラッチがとっても人気なのよ。

　NYに滞在中はアメリカの重要なジャーナリスト達に会ったり、VIPイベントに参加したりということもあって、本当に大忙し！それでもラッキーなことに、私たちのアメリカのオフィスで働いている妹のジェニーと過ごす時間も取れたわ。一緒に出かけたり、ショッピングしたり2人ですっごく楽しんだわ。

All Linked Up

Being a huge fan of Asia (I come to Japan at least four times a year) I couldn’t wait to launch our brand in Singapore this week. We have such a strong fan base in the region that it made sense to take our bags to Singapore next.

I am staying at a beautiful boutique hotel in Chinatown– it is called the Scarlet. It is a series of old Chinese shop houses that have been converted into luxurious rooms and suites. I love it because it’s stylish and has so much character. My room is like a burlesque boudoir, the colours are deep, rich red and gold. The surrounding area is so much fun, there are heaps of restaurants, tiny shops and just round the corner is the Chinese night market.

I launched my bags at a fabulous boutique called The Link. It is a contemporary multi-brand store that is crammed full of amazing designer womenswear. As well as our brand The Link sells designs from Roberto Cavalli, Alberta Ferretti, Catherine Malendrino, Vera Wang and See by Chloé. The owners of the store also stock their own home-grown brand – All Dressed Up – which has become a huge international success story.

My trunk show at the store has been great fun and I have met many new clients as well as press. I did a great fashion shoot with fashion magazine, who shot me wearing a stunning raspberry Alberta Ferretti dress. I can’t wait to see the shoot when it is published in January! 

アジアが大好きな私にとって（日本には少なくても年4回は来ているしね）、今週シンガポールで私たちのブランドをお披露目するのが待ちきれなかったわ。たくさんの熱心なファンがいる地域だし、次にこの国でブランドを展開するのは当然のように思えたの。

シンガポールでは、チャイナタウンにあるスカーレットという美しいデザイナーズホテルにステイしました。スカーレットは、中国の古いショップハウス（店舗兼住居型のアジア独特の建物様式）を改築したラグジュアリーなホテル。個性的でスタイリッシュなこのホテルは私のお気に入りなんです。私の部屋は、ディープレッドとゴールドがメインカラーで、まるでバーレスクなベッドルームといった感じなの。ホテルの周辺はたくさんのレストランや小さなショップ、そしてナイトマーケットが立つエリアでとっても楽しい場所なのです。

そして、今回の展示会はザ・リンクというセレクトショップで行ったんだけれど、ここは、ロベルト・カヴァリやアルベルタ・フェレッティ、キャサリン・マランドリーノ、ヴェラ・ウォン、シー・バイ・クロエなど、ホットなデザイナーの服を置いている素敵なお店なの。国内外でも注目されているオール・ドレスド・アップという、シンガポールのブランドも扱っていたわ。

そのショップで行われたトランクショーはとにかく楽しかった！　たくさんの新しいクライアントやプレス関係者に会えたし。それから、現地のファッション誌できれいなラズベリー色のアルベルタ・フェレッティのドレスを着てファッション撮影もしたの。1月号に掲載される予定なんだけれど、今からとってもワクワク！

“Keys” to my success

I am always so excited to see celebrities wearing my bags. I believe it is a huge personal compliment to be chosen by someone who has access to anything they want, and for them to recognise something special in my bags. These stars have the ability to set trends and are watched and admired by the world. So when I saw Alicia Keys carrying the Y clutch from my S/S09 collection at the world music awards in

Monte Carlo

last week I was ecstatic! She carried my new shape clutch, which is made from eel skin, in fabulous fuchsia to match her Moschino gown. She looked stunning. I love her style!

セレブが私のバッグを持っているのを見るといつも本当に嬉しくなっちゃう。全てを手に入れた彼女たちが、私のバッグに何かスペシャルなものを感じて、選んでくれたと思うと、最高に認められた気分。スターたちは世界中が注目し、憧れるトレンドセッターだもの。だからアリシア・キーズが先週モンテカルロで行われたワールド・ミュージック・アワードで、私の2009年S/SコレクションのYクラッチを持っているのを見た時は、飛び上がるほど嬉しかった！アリシアは私の最新デザイン、イールスキンのクラッチバッグを持ってたんだけど、美しいフーシャ色がモスキーノのドレスにすごくマッチしてた。彼女、とっても魅力的だったわ。私はアリシア・キーズのスタイルが大好き！

Factory Girl

This week has been all about our spring/summer 09 collection. We are just a few weeks away from launching it to the media and buyers in Paris and Milan, so it’s a very exciting and busy time. I have been back in Italy, spending a few days with the team at our Florence office and at our factory making the final arrangements for the collection. Although it is work, I love being in Italy. I feel right at home when I am in the factory surrounded by the smell of leather and watching my designs become a reality. The work that goes into creating a luxury handbag never fails to amaze me. The guys at the factory, who have been doing this for generations, are true artisans and I have a huge amount of respect for their work.

While I have been here, I had time to meet up with my mentor, Giuseppe Zanotti. He and I have been working closely together over the last year. He has been designing my shoes and I have designed handbags for his a/w09 collection. I love catching up with him while I am in Italy. He is so typically Italian – he is passionate and great fun to be around. I have learnt so much about life and luxury from him.

今週は次の春夏コレクションの準備に追われていました。新しいコレクションをパリとミラノでメディアとバイヤーに発表するまであと少し。今はとってもエキサイティングで忙しい時期です。イタリアに戻って私はフィレンツェのオフィスチームと過ごしています。また、工場ではコレクション制作が最後の仕上げに入っています。

仕事とはいえ、イタリアにいるのが大好きです。工場で革の匂いに包まれながら、デザインしたものが実際のバッグになるのを見ていると、まるで家にいるように落ち着いた感じになるの。そして、バッグの仕上がりは、決して期待を裏切らず、本当に素晴らしい出来なのです。工場で働いている人たちは長くこの仕事をしている職人の中の職人、スペシャリストたちで、彼らの仕事をすごくリスペクトしています。

それから、良き相談相手、ジュゼッペ・ザノッティと会えるのも楽しみのひとつ。彼とは去年ずっと一緒に仕事をしたの。彼は私の靴を、私はジョゼッペの2009年秋冬コレクションのバッグをデザインしたの。彼は、楽しむことが得意だし、情熱的な典型的なイタリア男性で、一緒にいると本当にハッピーなの。だから、ジョゼッペといるのが大好き。私は、人生とラグジュアリーの意味を彼からたくさん学んだわ。

Bye, Bye Summer. Hello Autumn!

It’s been a busy summer for my team and I.

We’ve been on the road showcasing our Resort collection and back in Italy　preparing our S/S09 collection. Now, we’ve taken a deep breath and are ready to launch ourselves into the autumn.

September is going to be crazy. We kick off in New York, and then head to Milan　and Paris　for our selling campaign. I am really excited about introducing our Spring/Summer 09 collection to the world.

The pre-collection was very well received and I think the main collection is going to be really popular too.

We have introduced some great new styles that I think are really fun and will be perfect for the spring and summer. Look out for the new “Fashionista” tote – it is a real eyecatcher.

It comes in metallic red, pink, green, blue, gold and silver and is embossed with the words “Fashionista”, as well international icons such as the　EiffｌTower　and a New York　apple.

It is supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek – I guess that is my mischievous side coming out! My top tip for autumn/winter is to pick up a bag from the new Giuseppe Zanotti collection. They are fabulous – although I am slightly biased as I designed them. I have been working in collaboration with Giuseppe this year; he designed my shoes collection and I designed his bags.

この夏は、私たちのチームにとって忙しい夏でした。リゾートコレクションのショーのキャスティングとイタリアでの2009年春夏コレクションの準備に追われていたのです。

今は一息つき、秋に向けて動き出す準備が整ったところです。 

9月はクレイジーなほど忙しくなりそう。ニューヨークを皮切りに、ミラノ、パリとキャンペーンをします。世界に向けて2009年春夏コレクションを発表するのは本当にエキサイティング。プレコレクションの評判は上々、メインコレクションもきっと皆さんに気に入ってもらえると信じています。 

今回のコレクションでは、数々のすばらしいニュースタイルをご紹介します。本当に楽しいコレクションで、春夏にぴったりのスタイルです。それから、新しい“ファッショニスタ”トートは、要チェック。絶対に注目を集めますよ。メタリックレッド、ピンク、グリーン、ブルー、ゴールド、そしてシルバーで展開するバッグには、エッフェル塔やニューヨークアップルと同じくらい、世界中の誰もが知っている言葉“ファッショニスタ”のエンボスが入っています。このちょっとアイロニーな感じは、私のいたずら好きな面が出せました。 

私の秋冬のやることリストの上位は、ジュゼッペ・ザノッティの新作からバッグをピックアップすること。自分でデザインしたので、ちょっぴりひいき目があるかもしれませんが、本当にすばらしい出来です。今年、私はジョゼッペとコラボレーションしています。私のシューズコレクションを彼がデザインし、私は彼のバッグをデザインしました。
